City Youth Ballet provides scholarships for dancers of diverse backgrounds who have a passion for dance, but lack the financial support required for years of training. Through these scholarships, young people and their families experience the benefits of the arts first hand with access to the highest quality of dance training regardless of their economic means. These young dancers experience the life-changing transformations that come from the development of self-confidence, discipline, lifelong healthy habits, and the ability to work as part of a team through training and performing their artistry before live audiences.

City Youth Ballet also shares a passion for dance with young audiences who lack the finances to attend ballet performances or who have not been exposed to dance as an art form. Through this program, City Youth Ballet continues to expand an appreciation for the arts and the universal language of dance among the under-served audiences of the Bay Area by providing discounted tickets to performances, classroom visits, and ongoing encouragement of students to try dance.

City Youth Ballet and its scholarship arm, the City Youth Ballet Foundation, are combined as a single 501C3, not for profit corporation based at City Ballet School. Students of the school audition for membership in the company at the beginning of each season, and additional guest artists may be invited for specific performances. The training, rehearsals, and performances required by the company are in addition to the student's regular ballet training at City Ballet School. This rigorous schedule prepares company members not only for work as professional dancers, should they choose, but also for life as responsible, contributing adults, and active members of society.
